DJW members Dr. Rolf D. Schlunze, Carsten Watanabe, Aoi Ono, and Rieko Ishii invite you to join the DJW Working Group Intercultural Management – 道場 (Dōjō).
Our online Dōjō has provided a trusted and confidential space for practitioners to discuss real-life German-Japanese business cases. Together, we explore where misunderstandings arise, how expectations and responsibilities can be aligned, and how communication can be improved in bilingual workplaces.
Key topics include:
- Intercultural awareness and cognitive processes
- Recognizing and reconciling cultural differences
- Creating cultural synergy and innovation
- Building trust and professional networks
- Intercultural management ethics
Through shared experiences and constructive dialogue, the Dōjō supports participants in developing intercultural competence and becoming effective boundary spanners between Japanese and German business cultures.
Forthcoming Events
AG Intercultural Management 道場 is conducted usually online but sometimes also at Ritsumeikan OIC on the spot. A registration at DJW Event Homepage is possible.
The next Intercultural Management Dōjō will be held at 14.10.2026. We will focus on expectation management in German-Japanese collaboration and explore how different assumptions about leadership, responsibility, and communication can lead to misunderstandings. We will also discuss how AI can support culturally sensitive communication and help build bridges between different working and communication styles. The kick-off will be led by Yuri Kurihara and Mathias Maul, combining practical German-Japanese experience with a technical perspective on AI. Register here.
